Madeleine Astor's Life Vest

There is a certain Titanic society in the United States that has made its opinion well known for years that any kind of salvage from Titanic is a desecration of a gravesite and completely unacceptable to the members of that society. I also believe it has been against commercialism regarding Titanic and I believe it is supposed to be a NON-PROFIT organization! I recently heard a rumor that the same well known Titanic society is now auctioning off cork from Madeleine Astor's life vest, along with threads from Titanic's carpet, to raise funds for its new museum.
While I have no problem with raising money for a non-profit society, I do have a problem with the method proposed here. I feel compelled to make a statement about this. However, please understand that this is my own OPINION and NOT necessarily that of the Canadian Titanic Society. The Canadian Titanic Society has members that are in favor of salvage for scientific means and those that are against it for any reason. IN MY OPINION, however, tearing apart Madeleine Astor's life vest, no matter what condition it is in, is a far greater desecration of the Titanic than any salvage that has ever been done thus far. I believe that nothing taken from the Titanic site has ever been torn apart or damaged for the purpose of making money for whatever reason, whether it be a fundraiser or otherwise.
IN MY OPINION, I personally find the proposed activities of this certain Titanic society to be appalling, hypocritical, and worst of all the greatest example of commercialism I have had the misfortune to hear of.

Thank you,
Norm Lewis
