Historical
fiction about the Titanic, set in Skippack, Pennsylvana
Signed copies available through Ned Schillow at titanichearts@yahoo.com
The news of the sinking of the Titanic shocked the world. In Skippack, Alberta
and her family wanted to find a way to help out, especially when they learned
that some of the victims and survivors were other Pennsylvanians. This fictional
story describes the way many Americans reached out and is an exciting glimpse at
some true events in small town America in the early 1900s. Meet Chum, a most
adventurous dog; the Shaffer children, full of fun and even a bit mischievous at
times; and the town residents, who share the news and join together when the
need arises.
The authors grew up in the town of Skippack, Pennsylvania, fascinated by the
story of the sinking of the Titanic, prompted by watching the two grand movies
of the 1950s that told this story, Titanic and A Night to Remember. Fittingly,
these movies were watched while curled up on Nana Shaffer’s couch—otherwise
known as Mom Shaffer in this tale. Stories told by grandparents, aunts, uncles,
and parents about life in this small town and on the farm left their impression,
and it was just a matter of time until these tales made their way into print.
